Unleashing the Flow: Top Methods to Amplify Your Home's Water Pressure

A KIVO troubleshooting brief for a weak tap or disappointing shower.

When water flow changes, buying a new fitting can feel like a quick answer. First, collect enough information to explain the problem clearly. A few observations can make the conversation with your water supplier or plumber much more useful.

Step 1: describe the change

“The upstairs shower becomes weaker when the kitchen tap runs” is more useful than “the pressure is bad”. Note the outlet, whether hot or cold water is affected, and whether the change is recent or longstanding. Describe what you observe rather than guessing the cause.

Step 2: check the wider picture

Try the cold kitchen tap, check that the internal stop valve is open, ask neighbours about their supply, and look for updates from your water company. If the kitchen cold supply works but other outlets do not, the issue may be within the property. These starting checks come from Water UK.

Step 3: keep a simple record

  • When: date, time and duration.
  • Where: affected taps, showers or appliances.
  • What else: other outlets or appliances running at the time.
  • What changed: recent work, replacement fittings or interruptions.
  • What is installed: appliance models and any relevant product documentation.

For example, write: “Kitchen cold tap appears normal; upstairs shower weakens during another use; first noticed after the bathroom work.” This is an example of a useful report, not a diagnosis.

Step 4: agree the next action

Ask your supplier or plumber which checks are needed and who should carry them out. Before approving a parts order, ask what problem the proposed component addresses, how its suitability will be checked, and what result to review afterwards.

Step 5: order against a specification

Once the required part is identified, compare the connection size, intended application, dimensions and installation requirements. Browse KIVO plumbing products using that specification rather than choosing by appearance alone.

Send product questions to sales@rockensupplygroup.co.uk, including the item code and the detail you need confirmed. After installation, retain the instructions and record what changed. A clear record today makes the next maintenance decision easier.
